The Starwilds Archival Project

The Starwilds was a virtual pet site originally launched in 2000 by a user known as starsh1n3. It was themed after outer space and science fiction tropes. Users cared for a spaceship crew of aliens travelling around Deep Space, a galaxy far away from Earth. You could talk with other Starwild users on the forums, collect items, explore the planets of Deep Space, customize your crew, decorate their ship, and much more!

Unfortunately, the Starwilds went offline sometime during 2005, when the server costs became too expensive and starsh1n3 refused to allow advertisements. It faded into obscurity as other pet sites rose to fame.

Enter yours truly! I had completely forgotten about the Starwilds, until I found an old drawing of my crew buried in a box of my childhood art. I was 9 years old when I joined SW, and I played consistently until its closing.

After I found my drawing, I decided to create the Starwilds Archival Project, or SWAP, to document everything I can find about the site. There's very little out there on the web, despite how popular SW was, so it's been difficult. So far, I've only managed to uncover a few screenshots and some concept art from starsh1n3's old deviantArt account.
